Christmas Holidays and a Free Stuff!

Z4Miniatures will be on its (my) annual holiday between 18th December and 6th January, so Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

As one would expect, I won't be around to ship anything out during that period, however, as a small contribution to the holiday cheer, any orders received during this period will receive a free gift (could be a ship, could be a tank, could be an extra missile pack, who knows?).

'Pendekar' Battlesuit Released!

The Type-32(G) 'Pendekar' battlesuit is the latest addition to Z4Miniatures range of 28mm science fiction miniatures. Each model stands 56mm to its tallest point and comes with four different weapons, with empty fists and clear mounting areas for you to add your own if so desired. Four arm variants along with a ball-and-socket shoulder joint give excellent poseability, and the legs and pelvis are now fused into two variants, streamlining assembly, and eliminating the previous requirement that you have four hands to hold the entire assembly together.

Also, the battlesuit is fully compatible size-wise with the weapons from the Games Workshop Tau Battlesuit. The weapons can mount with minimal fuss onto the shoulder mounts, or with a little trimming (or putty) will fit onto the forearm.

Battlesuit v2 Preview!

At long last, Z4Miniatures 2nd battlesuit is on its way to starting full production. Here are some photos of the preproduction masters that I received yesterday (and sent back today for casting).

And finally, the parts breakdown. Each suit will come with half of the below components plus a pair of empty fists (not shown)
Height is 50mm to the top of the "head", 57mm to the top of the tall shoulder missile pod. In the photos above it's sitting on a 40mm base, and the shoulder attachments are simple flat areas that can accommodate weapon options from other miniature lines.

Integral weapons are an Assault Rifle in the right hand, SMG+grenade launcher in the left hand, and micromissile and heavy missile shoulder pods.

Final price to be determined, but it will be slightly higher than the price of the current Bouncer battlesuit to account for the extra weapons supplied.

New Battlesuit Preview & Shipping Changes

It's been a long while since the last update, but the new Battlesuit is finally going into production. As a preview of things to come, here is an image of the master. Bear in mind that it's missing an arm and half a leg, which will be duplicated from the contralateral side. Initial release will come will have a pistol, SMG and assault rifle as hand weapon options, along with submunition launchers and missile launchers for the shoulders.

However, not everything is all sunshine and rainbows. After many months of absorbing Royal Mail's frankly insane price changes, I sad to say that I have revised the postage rates slightly to help offset the increased cost. This translates to the following:

Total price: GBP0.01 - GBP10.00 - P&P 25% of total
Total price: GBP10.01 - GBP25.00 - P&P 17.5% of total
Total price: GBP25.01 - GBP30.00 - P&P 15% of total
Total price: GBP30.01 - Upwards - P&P 12.5% of total

Please note that while the costs may seem high, all postage costs paid that are in excess of what is actually charged to me by Royal Mail will be refunded (this has always been an unwritten rule).

New designs! New battlesuit!

To those who have been enquiring, yes I am still alive, and yes I am still trading and shipping stuff out. To compensate for the long silence, I offer some WiP photos, there's some older stuff there, waiting in the pipeline, and there's the new battlesuit I'm brewing up, this time with less casting issues and weight problems.

Concept art and initial work on a new battlesuit. A fusion of the Shirow-style design with some elements of Ma.K thrown in. It will come in less parts, and the main bulk of it will be in resin (or perhaps even all of it).

I also have some other news.

As those of you who have recently tried to purchase them have been told, I am withdrawing the Azrael Heavy Unit, the Yama Light Unit and the Shoji Stealth Carrier from the store. The former two have had rather disappointing sales, and I am not planning to continue that line. The Shoji is being updated to a completely new (and in my opinion much better) look as in the first image above.

Rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated (as usual).

This is just a quick post to let everyone know that Z4Miniatures still exists. I've just been a little busy with the day job and haven't had the time to build anything new yet, but rest assured, things are coming. As a taster, have a look at the upcoming Stealth Cruiser for the Diaspora Authority and the Nebula Guardian's Raid Cruiser.

The Stealth Cruiser (on the left) is complete, and an updated design from the previous version I showcased a few months ago on TMP and SCN. The Raid Cruiser (on the right) is a redesigned heavy cruiser after I found the old design to be far too ugly for my liking.

Following some feedback on the initial pre-release version, some small changes have been made to the suit which I am sure everyone will appreciate. In other news today, a rogue miniature sculptor named ZandrisIV was taken away frothing by Men in White Coats after greviously slashing prices of his 6mm miniature range. He is currently being held under the Mental Arithmetic Act for gross negligence in the calculation of his prices and profit margins.

Following feedback received from several posters on The Miniatures Page, I have gone back and had a long hard look at the various costs involved in the production of the 6mm Sci-Fi Microarmour range, and decided that it would be possible for me to revise the prices downwards. This does mean that I won't be able to give out any special bundle deals or offers, but who needs them when the prices are rock bottom anyway.

The Nusantara Peacekeeping Army comprised of units drawn from the dominions of the SEA Demarchy, and is the third largest national levy within the Terran Diplomatic Corps (Planetary Divisions). As with all such units, they receive their hardware (manufactured from standardised blueprints) from their home state, and the Demarchy equips its sons and daughters well with equipment built to (nearly) highest standards at rock bottom prices. I've been getting a fair few questions on how I do the patterning found on the various Terran Diplomatic Corps vessels, and I have posted a few text tutorials for some people before. However, I thought that some of you might find it a little more helpful if there were some pictures to accompany the words, so when I painted the Embassy-class Assault Carrier Voidborn Soliloquy (pictured above). Nemesis Awakening - Preorder Offer!

Carriers ahoy!

The Embassy-class Assault Carriers are the workhorse carriers of the Terran Diplomatic Corps. While TDC combat doctrine typically eschews the use of fighters in favour of missiles and heavy spinal weaponry, there are times when total obliteration of the opposing force would be considered a sub-optimal outcome, this is when the Embassy carriers come in. Each carrying six wings of cyberlinked fighters/small craft, they are able to conduct operations ranging from surgical strikes on enemy warships, to providing ground forces with aerospace support.

The Terran Diaspora Authority was birthed at the same time as the Terran Diplomatic Corps, in death throes of the old Terran Colonial Authority in its war against the Nemesis engines. While the Diplomatic Corps mandate was to police the Pax Humanus, the Diaspora was formed to spread the seeds of humanity throughout the galaxy, in the hope that Humanity would never be on the brink of extinction again.

Ranging at the edges of human controlled space with their massive cityships, the Diaspora are at the forefront of opening up new worlds for colonisation and exploration. When a colony is first established it is under Diaspora administration for its first decade, before it gains independence and enters the Pax Humanus.

Relations between the Diplomatic Corps and the Diaspora are never completely cordial, as it is often in these new colonies that troublemakers, revolutionaries and recidivists collect. When the local Diaspora forces are infiltrated with these undesirable elements, it is often then when incidents occur when Diplomatic fleets arrive to apprehend/quell disturbances. However, none of these incidents has ever led to a full on confrontation between these two factions of humanity, as at the very highest levels, it is understood that such a conflict would probably spell the end of the Pax Humanus.

Unlike the TDC, the Diaspora Authority makes wide use of fighters and small craft. This is due to the generally lower tech-levels present within the Diaspora fleets, and a correspondingly higher number of crazy wannabe heroes willing to speed off in the glorified missiles the public like to refer to as fighters. Cyberlinking is uncommon, and as such, most fighters actually contain a fully human pilot.

The main delivery system for these crazy wannabe heroes is the Shoji Stealth Carrier. Ubiquitious, cheap and produced in vast numbers in the cityship forges, the Stealth Carrier is the main ship of the line for the Diaspora, alongside the Nue-class Stealth Cruisers.

Fresh Prototypes! - Beam and Assault Cruisers

Assault Cruiser
The standard TDC ship of the line, the assault cruiser packs a lot of firepower into a conveniently sized (cheap) hull. Mounting six turrets, including a super-heavy dual beam turret, the Assault Cruiser is almost as heavily armed, and faster than its heavier cousin the Diplomat.

Beam Cruiser
The beam cruiser was designed for only one thing, and one thing alone, unloading a massive amount of focused energy into one small area. Whether said area is the hull of an alien battleship, or the crust of a rebellious planet is not something the designers of this ship bothered to specify.

Today I received the first production batch of ships from the casters. I must say that GZG-Jon has not disappointed, the casts are clean and as far as I can see, have very little in the way of imperfections (outside of the normal mold-lines).

This does mean, however, that pre-order period has now closed for the Heavy Cruiser, Heavy Destroyer, and their associated fleet packs. A very big thank you to those who have placed pre-orders, and have expressed interest and support of the line up till now.

All ships are now in stock and will be shipped out as soon as orders are received.

Here is some of the concept art for the upcoming ships for the Terran diplomatic corps. The ships are, across from the top left hand corner:

i. Assault Carrier ~ 8-10cm

- The hangar bay runs down the length of the vessel, with landing bays along the sides.

ii. Engineering/Arsenal ship or Light Carrier ~ 6-8cm

- Central bay area contains the payload. Have yet to decide what the final payload will be, may be possible to have swappable loads.

iii. Proposed carrier design.

- The little boxes are all supposed to house a single fighter, which would be launched off like missiles.

iv. Light/Escort cruiser ~ 5-6cm

- Originally a destroyer, but lengthened to cruiser size, might be cut down again to produce a frigate.

v. Battleship ~ 8-10cm

- Inspired by the Kushan heavy cruiser in Homeworld.

vi. Command ship ~ 2-4cm

vii Hospital ship ~6-8cm

Construction of prototypes will begin soon. Expect to see a couple of these ships "in the plastic" soon.

Diplomats and Negotiators

The Terran Diplomatic Corps was formed as the successor of the Terran Colonial Authority, which itself succeeded the United Nations of Earth. The Corps is the main force of law and order in human space, and for the three and a half centuries since its formation, it has succeeded in maintaining the Pax Humanus against the threat of rogue stellar empires, pirates, and disagreeable aliens.

The Diplomat-class Heavy Cruiser is a workhorse of the Corps. Bristling with antiship missiles, particle accelerators and a devastating spinal laser, it is truly a force to be reckoned with whether found patrolling trade routes or in a Corps battlegroup.

The ship pictured, no. 263, otherwise known as TDCS Trust, is shown in the red and yellow livery of the 8th Corps Battlegroup, based at Sirius Fleet Base.

A common companion of the Diplomat is the Negotiator-class Heavy Destroyer pictured below. Designed to complement the cruisers by providing close in point defense support and speed to hunt down blockade runners, the Negotiator is even more frequently seen than the ubiqitous Diplomat.
